The latest incarnation of Justin Bubb’s Prosecco is flying out the door and it’s easy to see why. With a new source of fruit in Friuli’s San Martino al Tagliamento (a village which has only just been granted Prosecco status) and just 12 g/l residual – the lowest possible for Extra Dry – it’s not only racier and deeper than most of its competitors, but it is also great value. Made using the Charmat method (also known as ‘cuvee close’ or more straightforwardly, ‘tank method’), this has fresh, floral aromas, a creamy mouth feel and notes of pear skin, nectarine and citrus. The finish is crunchy and dry. Add to that a dose of joie de vivre and a level of precision we have not seen in this wine before and, Roberto is your uncle. Abiding by the DOC regulations, it has to be labelled as a non-vintage, though the wine actually comes from a single vintage, 2013 in this case.
