Named after a Kawarau River gold dredge, the Carrick Magnetic Pinot Noir is a single block, single variety and single clone wine. Unique and interesting it is only sold direct to customers through our cellar door and wine club. The clone is Abel, said to be a cutting smuggled into the country from a famed Burgundian estate and subsequently confiscated by one Malcolm Abel. Moonlighting as a winemaker in his spare time, Abel a customs officer saw the potential in the cutting and decided to propagate the clone. It is this unique chain of events which then ultimately lead us to plant the Abel clone on a small 0.34ha plot in 2008.
