Ctes de Provence

ABV 13.00%

I am a massive fan of this wine, and not only have I written about it on many occasions, but I have also selected it for a couple of super-star restaurant wine lists for whom I consult. In addition, it has formed the backdrop to many a party, and this new 2023 sits right at the top of the pile. It is great to find a top-flight ros for under twenty quid, but I would urge you to seek out the magnums, which look ridiculous value at 35!
Matthew Jukes, 7th August 2024

I know this wine well, having followed it for many years, and I cannot remember a more immediately delicious vintage than this delightful 2022. Lovely and pure with superb white wine freshness and impressive length, the pink melon and rhubarb stalk fruit notes are spot on here, and the silky texture and crisp acidity make it an ideal candidate for all-day al fresco drinking when the mercury rises.

TASTING NOTES
This ros is brilliantly clear with pale peach accents. The nose displays delicate aromas of white flowers, citrus, juicy white peach and pear notes. On the palate, a zesty and fresh acidity is balanced beautifully by the distinctive citrus character, which provides an elegant mouthfeel and refreshing length.

PRODUCER
The Cuve Alexandre is a delicious and modestly priced Provence ros from Chteau Beaulieu, located in Rognes in Coteaux d’Aixen-Provence. The estate comprises 300 hectares of vines which lie at an altitude of 400 metres, in the heart of an ancient volcanic crater. The vineyard land has been farmed in the area since Roman times, although the Chteau itself was built as a stronghold for the French King Henry III in 1576. Today, the estate is run by the Jeanjean family, who co-own Mas La Chevalire (in the South of France) and Domaine Laroche (Chablis) with Michel Laroche.

VINEYARDS
Situated a few kilometres from Aix-en-Provence and stretching 300 hectares, the estate lies in the heart of Provence’s only volcano at 400 metres above sea level. The site, which faces the renowned Provencal region of the Lubron and overlooks the Durance Valley and the Roque d’Anthron, is diversified and ideally suited to growing vines. The sunny, dry, Mediterranean climate provides ripe, fruit-driven wines. The sea breezes moderate the hot, drying influence of the Mistral, which blows from the north; this means that the vines are not stressed, the balance is better and the wine retains freshness and aroma alongside the fruit..
