Our Degree Shiraz is an aromatic fruit forward wine, with soft tannins and a smooth finish. Designed for immediate drinking the 2021 vintage compromises 90% Shiraz, 6% Mourvdre and 4% Riesling. The Mourvdre softens the Shiraz tannins and the co-fermented Riesling helps lift the aromatics. This unique blend was first made in 2002 from our “Young Vine” block, planted in 1999. The combination has worked so well over the years, and while the % of each variety varies, the blend has never changed. The wine was matured for 18 months in 3-8 year old French oak barriques prior bottling in March 2022, with filtration.
